Access to Boipeba is by sea only. From Salvador, allow about 2h30 by road to Valença, then 45 minutes by boat. It is advisable to book transfers in advance, especially during high season.
With no ATMs on the island, bring sufficient cash upon arrival. A few establishments accept credit cards, but cash remains the norm.
Walking is the most authentic way to explore the island. Tractors provide transport for luggage and passengers between areas, particularly useful for reaching distant beaches with gear.
The local gastronomy deserves special attention. Be sure to sample fish moqueca, grilled seafood and freshly picked tropical fruits. Local restaurants serve authentic dishes made with the day's catch.
Finally, pack effective sunscreen and lightweight cotton clothing. Mosquito repellent is also advisable, especially in the evenings and wooded areas.
